As Konami tries to re-establish itself as a big name in gaming, taking a competitive share of the football game market would be huge.

Whilst on the VGC Off The Record podcast, Andy Robinson notes that he has heard that Konami have a number of projects in the works whilst actively trying to change things up with existing projects like PES 2022.

No official release date has been stated for PES 2022 - but we do expect the game to arrive in September.

PES titles have arrived as early as August in the past - but this year we are putting our money on Tuesday, 7 September.

We've already had a sneak peek at a PES 2022 teaser, with Konami letting us in on the progress for Next Gen consoles on Unreal Engine.

We can expect to see what Konami has been working on at E3 this summer - which is set for 15-17 June.

We don't know if the engine will be Unreal 4 or 5 however, with UE5 not expected until "late in 2021" - suggesting PES 2022 will be on its predecessor.

As much as UE5 would bring Hollywood level graphics to the video game industry, there is no need for gamers to worry if it doesn't come out just yet.

UE4 still brings in enhanced graphics of "metahumans" which would take the likeness of the players on PES to the next level.

Plus, Unreal Engine 5 will also be rolled out on PS4 and Xbox One - suggesting the new engine won't be the be-all and end-all of top-quality visuals.

This will be the core area for Xbox players - as if Series X offers the use of an Option File then fans would be very excited.

That said, so far - judging on compatibility with PES 2021 - it does not look like Option Files will be possible for Xbox players.

So, unless Konami can secure a load of new licences for PES 2022, it's unlikely Series X owners will be picking up the new game.

Konami does try to win Xbox players later in the year however, with PES 2020 and 2021 appearing on Game Pass in the last two years.

eFootball Option File: Where to find, How to Download, Which Ones are

If you’re not playing on Steam, the folder location should look like this: My Documents > Konami > Pro Evolution Soccer 2021 > WEPES. Copy all files from the downloaded Option File directly into Option Files were the heartbeat of the community in the PES franchise, and that looks set to continue on eFootball.

Despite the significant re-brand from Konami in changing PES to eFootball and making it free to play - Option Files will still be available in the new game.

An Option File for eFootball (previously PES) titles allows you to download community-created kits and logos to the game, via a computer.

Various websites offer various option files - from the Premier League, to La Liga, to divisions not even on Konami games like the Bundesliga or MLS.

Hit the command shown to "Select All Files" when the list of files show up on the Select File screen.

Plug-in USB into your Xbox One, start the PES 2020 and try finding import option through the game menu (Edit – Data Management – Extras section). There can be more options so pick correct import type (Team, Competition) and files from a specific folder. Image content needs to imported also manually. How to download the PES 2021 Option File - GameRevolution

Unfortunately, you cannot install Option Files onto the Xbox One version of eFootball PES 2021 Season Update. As of writing, you cannot transfer files between a USB stick and an Xbox One. How do you download the PES 2021 Option File? Another year means another new Option File to download and install on Konami’s new soccer game. You don’t want to spend your time playing as Manchester Red in their unofficial kits now, do you? Read on to find out how to download the PES 2021 Option File to get official kits, team names, and more into the game in one fell swoop.

The Option File is a third-party download that you can get on websites such as pes-patch. You will need to download the Option File/Files that you want to be added into PES 2021 and then install them into the game. Thankfully, the game makes it simple to add in these fan-made patches for official league names, kits, player names, team names, and more. Without going into the game’s files and editing everything yourself (who has the time for that?), downloading and installing the Option File is the way to go. Remember, though, anything you download from a third-party source comes with an element of risk.

You should now have the official (fan-made) kits, team names, badges, and leagues in PES 2021 on PS4. If your Option Files did not work, you can always try to get them from a different source. PesWorld, for example, should have Option Files for PES 2021 on PS4 soon after its launch on September 15, 2020. Keep an eye out for other websites that offer complete Option Files, too.

To get the Option File on PC for PES 2021, you need to download and extract third-party files from sites such as pes-patch or PesWorld. The process from then on should be similar to how it works on PS4 (see above), with a few notable differences. You won’t need that USB stick, for example.

You should now have all the correct kits, team names, badges, and leagues in PES 2021 on PC. If the linked-to Option File does not work on PC, try another from a different site such as PesWorld. More Option Files on different sites should be available soon, following the game’s September 15 release date.

Unfortunately, you cannot install Option Files onto the Xbox One version of eFootball PES 2021 Season Update. As of writing, you cannot transfer files between a USB stick and an Xbox One. Of course, you can freely edit any player, kit, badge, or whatever you’d like on the game using its detailed editing options. This will take quite some time, unfortunately.

A PES 2021 Option File complements the recent news of an official partnership with Lazio, to go with Juventus and Roma (above). But while Konami has made improvements on the Serie A licensing front, eFootball PES 2021 continues to lack some of the biggest European names. This guide enables you to change that, and introduce more realistic names and kits across the game. Here's all you need to know about using a PES 2020 Option File on PS4 and PC.

Thankfully, it’s not a complicated process. The main, key, piece of hardware you’ll need (at least on PS4) is a USB stick, preferably with at least 8 GB of memory. You’ll also need to find a solid Option File itself. Speaking of which…

For now, many PES 2021 Option Files out there are paid-only. If you’re willing to stump up the cash, the highly renowned PES Universe has one for £10 ($12). It's also worth joining evoweb and monitoring the forums there for free options. 

If you haven’t used your USB on your PS4 before, you’ll need to format your USB to FAT32. It’s nice and simple but copy and backup all of your current files onto your computer as formatting it will wipe everything.

Right-click on your USB, then press Format. Select ‘FAT32’ from the File System dropdown menu and click Start. Easy. Then, all you need to with your USB is create a new folder and title it ‘WEPES’

Next, download a PES 2020 Option File from one of the sites above (or another of your choosing if you so wish) and extract the files using WinRAR or equivalent software to the WEPES folder now present on your USB drive. You can finally slot your USB into your PS4.

Note: If the Option File already has a folder called ‘WEPES’ (it’s rare, but does happen), you don’t need to create a new folder, just extract it directly onto the USB.

Ensure all patches and Live Updates have been installed before beginning (go to ‘Apply latest Live Update’ in Settings for the latter), then click on Settings in the main menu, then Edit.

Create Edit Data if you haven’t already. Then, scroll down to Import/Export, press Accept on the warning, then click Import Team and then press X to proceed if you’re looking to get updated names, kits, and badges.

Annoyingly you have to go through a quick tutorial first. Do that (just mash X and follow the on-screen instructions when required) and go back to Import Team.

Select your USB when the option pops up, and then press Square – ‘Select all files’ and proceed. Don’t tick anything on Detailed Settings and hit OK. You then have to wait around 10-15 minutes for the files to copy over, depending on how large your PES 2020 Option File is.

The first thing you need to do on PC (other than downloading an Option File, of course) is to boot up your copy of PES and go to Settings > Edit for the first time. This will create Edit Data, which will also automatically make a ‘WEPES’ folder for you to copy Option Files into.

There are two possible destinations for the WEPES folder, depending on whether you’re playing the game on Steam or not.

If you’re not playing on Steam, the folder location should look like this: My Documents > Konami > Pro Evolution Soccer 2021 > WEPES

From here, accept the warning, and click on Import Team. Hit the command shown to ‘Select All Files’ when the list of files show up on the Select File screen.

As of writing, there is still no way to get updated names, kits, and badges on your PES 2021 Xbox One copy. Outside of being a dab hand at using the in-game editor, it’s impossible due to the Microsoft console’s lack of compatibility for third-party files.

All downloaded names, kits, and badges will work online in PES 2021, albeit with a caveat. Only you can see it, not your opponent.

Conversely, if you’re going up against a player with a different Option File (for example, a retro-styled Option File featuring 1990s kits), then you’ll only be able to see your Option File’s version of each team, including all strips, badges, and all the rest of it.
